Invitation

Dear Sir or Madam,

Esteemed Colleagues,

The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System at the Medical University of Gdańsk, along with the Pomeranian Branch of the Polish Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, is pleased to announce that we will host our Society’s Scientific Convention in September 2026. This will be the fourth such event held in the Gdańsk region. The first congress, organized by Dr. Henryk Cetkowski, head of the Orthopedics Department in Gdynia and founder of Polish orthopedics in Pomerania took place in Gdynia in 1946. The subjects discussed at the VII PTOiTr Convention centered on critical issues of the time, including the treatment of hip joint tuberculosis and war-related injuries.

The establishment of the Department and Clinic of Orthopedics in Gdańsk in 1953 marked a significant milestone in the evolution of orthopedics in Pomerania. This led to the organization of the XIII Convention in 1959 by Prof. Alfons Senger, which focused on degenerative changes in the hip joint and the treatment of osteoarticular tuberculosis. After several years, in 1976, Prof. Antoni Hlavaty organized the XXI Congress, which centered on the treatment of congenital clubfoot and the application of stable osteosynthesis. In 1992, following the changes in Poland, Prof. Józef Szczekot organized the XXIX PTOiTr Convention on a grand scale, addressing surgical treatments for lateral spinal curvatures and knee joint injuries. Many orthopedists look back on this Convention fondly, not only for its scientific value but also for its exceptional organization. More than thirty years have passed since that Convention, and the dynamic development of the Department and Clinic of Orthopedics in Gdańsk has inspired us to organize another Scientific Convention. Traditionally, the conference topics will reflect areas where the Gdańsk Clinic excels and address cutting-edge issues in modern orthopedics. Topics such as minimally invasive techniques in spinal surgery, robotics, and innovative techniques in orthopedics, as well as upper limb injuries, will take center stage. The breadth of topics for discussion will be substantial. Thanks to advances such as robotic surgery, preoperative computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, navigation, neuromonitoring, and thermal ablation, we can provide our patients with safer, more effective care while overcoming various barriers and limitations.

A key goal of this Convention will be to develop guidelines on musculoskeletal trauma for young physicians training in specialties such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, pediatric surgery, pediatrics, and emergency medicine.
We also aim to provide valuable information for those training in radiology and rehabilitation. We envision a format for the Convention that will not only facilitate practical study in traumatology but also help attendees prepare for their specialty exams.

We recognize it is an upheal task, but we believe it can be accomplished through collaboration with orthopedic centers across Pomerania and Poland. The enchanting setting of Gdańsk, with its stunning architecture, historic landmarks, and the scenic Baltic Sea, is sure to leave a lasting impression on all participants.

We warmly invite you to Gdańsk.
